As a community developed in conjunction with the Berks County Office of Aging, Providence House is designed to serve moderate-income seniors age 62 and above (historically, disabled individuals may enter at age 55) who are medically stable but may need or desire supportive services to assist them in mainstreaming independent lives. All residents enjoy a bright one-bedroom apartment with living room, full kitchen, and a spacious bath. Residents have the option of preparing their own meals or, if they choose, they may enjoy the Providence House dining room where three delicious meals are available daily. Under the supervision of chef Tracy Kreider, the dining room features a varied menu of creative meals, specialty theme events, and home-town favorites. All-you-can eat pasta and seafood menus are favorites of the Providence House crowd! Activities abound at Providence House. Under the direction of the Berks County Senior Citizens Council, weekly programming includes: computer instruction (the facility provides two computers exclusively for resident use), seminars, bingo and dominoes, movies and crafts. Most important are the supportive services coordinated by the Berks County Office of Aging In addition to meals in the Providence House dining room, the agency can coordinate housekeeping, laundry, and personal care services (such as help with bathing) at levels that allow residents to maintain an independent lifestyle.
